BRIEF ABOUT ALHAJI (DR.) UMARU MUTALLAB, CON, OMRI
Biography
Dr. Umaru Abdul Mutallab, a prominent business leader, banker, chartered and certified accountant, with many years of experience in development, commercial, and merchant banking, is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria.
Dr. Mutallab, one of Nigeria’s most respected bankers, was the former Minister for Economic Development in 1975 and Cooperatives and Supplies in 1976. He was a member of Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council from 1975 to 1978. He was also a former chairman of First Bank of Nigeria and Jaiz Bank International PLC and served as Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of the United Bank for Africa.
His extensive experience serving on the Board of Directors of several companies such as Nigeria Agip Oil, Arewa Textile Limited, Nigerian Communications Commission, and other organizations will be invaluable to IHVN, a local organization mitigating the spread of HIV and other infectious diseases.
Alh. Mutallab holds the title of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON), one of the highest honors in Nigeria.
He is a graduate of South-West London College, Achimota College, Accra. and Barewa College, Zaria. He was also awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree by Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and Benue State University, Makurdi.
Alhaji Mutallab is happily married with children.
